ELA PD Session Teachers,
We are looking forward to working with you on Sept. 1st to review the updates to the ELA curriculum documents! Part of this work will be looking at how to use the new resources included to create lesson plans and activities that are appropriate for distance learning. In order to make the most of our time together, please be sure that you will have quick access to your Collection 1 guaranteed texts, as well as your grade level's lesson plans for Collection 1 from last year. Our plan is to take the work you did last year and revise it to make it DL appropriate. If you have any questions between now and our time together on Tuesday, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]. See you all soon!

Hello from WBTW!
I’m reaching out because our team of anchors, reporters, and meteorologists is offering virtual visits to schools via Zoom!
Our anchors and reporters can explain how we cover the news. Our meteorologists can explain the science behind our weather coverage.
We’ve made it easy to request an appearance. Just fill out this form:

Can you pass this along to teachers who might be interested in a virtual visit for their class?
Virtual appearances will begin in late September. We offer approximately 30 virtual visits per month. They’re booked on a first-come, first-serve basis. We are not offering in-person appearances at this time.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Being A Writer: The following attached document will help teachers know what to prioritize in BAW for DL/Hybrid instruction. This document can also be found under the Professional Learning/Implementation tab on the Learning Portal.
Monday, August 31st: Each school should be working through their Distance Learning modules on this day. Please be sure to sign up in our SJE TNL session created so that you can get credit for this day. Since this is a Board Approved SD day, we must take attendance. Be sure to sign in using the attendance link during our session.
Tuesday, Sept. 1st: We are so excited to get to work with you on Tuesday! At this point, all teachers should be signed up for the 4 sessions they are planning on attending. Since these will all be held in a Google meet, please be logged on using your g.horrycountyschools account. All Google meet links for sessions can be found on our elementary page on THIS website.
Teachers with assigned interns - interns do not have Google accounts yet through HCS. They can participate in PD sessions with their cooperating teachers on September 1. A good tip may be for the teacher to project his/her screen so the intern can effectively and safely view sessions w/ you.
Asynchronous Lessons: We all know that finalized details are still being worked out, but as you move into planning for student tasks on asynchronous days, please try to keep these workload time limits in mind for your students:
Kindergarten - 60 minutes maximum
1st - 2nd Grade: 90 minutes maximum
3rd - 4th: 120 minutes maximum
Extra Resource: Here is a link to a very informational blog about the importance of SEL during distance learning instruction. You may find some great tidbits of info:
