NWEA MAP NORMS 2020 (Heather Sheehan) -
The 2020 NWEA MAP norms have been released and are being used on the current fall testing. For many reasons, it is inadvisable to compare the performance of a student on one set of MAP Growth norms to his or her performance on another set of MAP Growth norms (i.e., 2015 versus 2020 norms).
Differences have been observed between the 2020 and 2015 MAP Growth Norms. Most notably, student achievement has decline in recent years across subject areas and grade levels. On average, in math and reading, the 2020 growth norms show slightly lower means in the earlier grades and slightly greater means in the upper grades. There are also differences in the magnitude of growth observed between test events.
Finally, the Growth K-2 norms have been worked into the norms. You will go to one norm table to see all of the norms for all of the tests.
2020 Testing
By the end of the day on Monday September 21, ALL students virtual and face to face in grades K-5 need to have completed MAP testing.
Singing (Scott Scrivner) -
Vocal singing in any classroom is discouraged until our area has been determined as low or no spread of COVID 19. This applies to all vocal performing classes, elementary music classrooms and during regular classroom instructional and non-instructional activities. The purchase of choral specific PPE, masks, would permit the practice of choral and ensemble rehearsal as long as all other social and physical distance guidelines are followed. Counting, chanting, patting, snapping, tapping, and clapping are acceptable alternative activities for singing.

Testing Information {Tina}:
Math Information {Paula}:
- {K-2 Teachers} Lexia Upgrades: Lexia has now been updated to the new version. This version will look a little different for students when they login. We have also moved from having 18 levels to now having 21 levels. The week before school starts, I will reset all students' placement tests so that we will get a current placement level for them. With these upgrades, there have been changes in the IOS requirements that support the new system. Please be sure all devices students will be using fall under these requirements: IOS 10 or higher, iPad 4+, iPad mini 3+, iPad Air+, or an iPad Pro.
- {K-2 Teachers} ALL THINGS SEESAW: Remind all your K-2 teachers about the ALL THINGS SEESAW group on Facebook Workplace. Teachers from all over our district are sharing SEESAW activities that are ready to assign to students. This is a great resource to help teachers save time with planning. But as with any public resource, please have your teachers screen the assignment s before using to ensure it meets the requirement of their grade level standard. Once signed into your SEESAW account, use this join code to join the group: https://fb.me/g/a2Lo9jsmB/NodxC4SR. If teachers need help signing up for the Workplace account, please contact your school's Digital Integration Specialist.
- {2nd Grade} Missed Phonics Skills: When school's closed last March, there were some critical phonics spelling patterns that may not have been taught to mastery in years past. 2nd grade teachers need to be aware that students coming to them may not be as secure in these skills and be prepared to support this instruction in SGI. A link of missed skills can be found HERE.
- {All Grades} Pacing guides for all grades have been updated to include assessment windows and dates. Be sure to read the notes in the key for each subject area.
- {All Grades} I spoke with a representative from CCC yesterday about the issues some of you were having with accessing the new Learning Portal. We tried to troubleshoot to be able to reset your accounts on our end but found out that the only way to reset them is for each individual to contact CCC's Tech support on their own. If you, your principal, or a teacher receives an "error" code when trying to activate their account, have them send an email to this address: [email protected]. They have been very timely in getting issues corrected.
Testing Information {Tina}:
- {K-2 Teachers} BOY Dibels8 Testing: As teachers prepare to administer the BOY Dibels8 assessment to students, please remind them to take time to review the testing procedures with students. It has been 8 months since most students participated in a timed test situation. We want to make sure we are getting the most valid test score for each child and do not want data skewed due to being out of practice with this type of testing. New this year, the VOC subtest portion is optional and not a mandatory assessment.
Math Information {Paula}:
- {New Teachers} EM4 Online: If you have a new teacher or a teacher that moved grade levels, they will need to add their grade level’s EM4 Teacher manual to their McGraw Hill account. In order to add the teacher manual, they will need their code that will be listed in their new paper teacher manual. If you are struggling with adding the digital teacher manual, please reach out to me and I will do what I can to make it happen.
- {All Teachers} EM4 Online: We are currently waiting for the Powerschool rollover to occur. Once this occurs, EM4 will move the students to current classroom rosters. I will continue to communicate with you regarding when to expect this to occur. Until then, we are on hold.
- ALEKS and FRECKLE: We are currently working to purge the ALEKS and FRECKLE accounts from last year and add the new master templates. When ALEKS and FRECKLE are available for your use, I will email you directions on what to do and the date to begin.
