Open Communication with Parents:
During our PLCs this week, we will talk about how we are communicating with our parents. Many of you are creating documents to help parents, such as a Newsletter and a Distance Learning Checklist. If you have created something that works for your grade-level parents, please share it with me.

- On Fridays, students can use our Weebly page to access activities from home. (For example, if they have had music with me all week, they will do the music activities on the Weebly on Friday.) Please post this link on your Seesaw page or in your Google classroom. https://sjespecialareas.weebly.com/
- If students submit work to you (through Seesaw or Google classroom or email), you can forward it to us, take a pic and email it to us, etc. Whatever is easiest for you! It is not mandatory for students to submit work.

- Spelling Tests- Teachers should be providing spelling practice and spelling tests for students if they are not already doing so. A modified version of the green band in Imagine It! should be taught on A/B days. Spelling pattern/word practice can be given as part of students' asynchronous tasks. Spelling tests will need to be given on one of the live instruction days. Schools can have discussions within grade levels to determine how this should look and should strive to ensure consistency within each grade level.
- Achieve3000- Achieve3000 has made many new updates to their program over the summer. These new resources are linked HERE to a quick look at the updates.
- Digital Content- Thank you all for being so patient as we worked out kinks in Achieve and Lexia over the last 2 weeks. As HCS continues to finalize virtual/brick and mortar schedules, please expect delays in student Clever access. If a student has a schedule change, it has been taking up to a week for PowerSchool to sync with Clever to get the student the correct access to their appropriate digital content. Hopefully, this will be our last week of major PowerSchool changes districtwide, so many of these issues should be fixed by Friday. If you are having an issue with digital content and you do not think it is a PS issue, let me know.
- Common Assessments- This year, Common Assessments are linked as the last lesson of all grades 3-5 curriculum documents. It is recommended that these assessments are given on Performance Matters if possible. However, PDF versions of the Common Assessments have been included in the curriculum documents as an alternate way of assessing. In addition, directions for assessing in PM are linked in the same location. It is important that we use these assessment as a way to collect data that drives instruction. These assessments are modeled after the style of SCPass-like questions. They help us determine student mastery of science standards. In addition, the district data is analyzed to help drive our curriculum work each summer. Teachers are encouraged to use Performance Matters for these assessments. If you end up using a PDF version of the test, it is still important for you to add your data to PM, to collect and analyze the Common Assessment data. Testing windows are open at the start of the until close to the end of the year. Due to pacing with hybrid/distance learning/face to face schedules, there are no two-week testing windows like we had last year. Please review the assessment prior to teaching each unit.
- Interventions must start by Monday, September 28th. If you have any questions about scheduling, groupings, or expectations, please contact me.
- MAP Goals for the Year {Heather Sheehan}: As you know, the biggest change was in MAP percentiles with the new norming study. Because there are new norms, we think it best to use FALL to SPRING growth targets this year, rather than spring to spring.
