Daily Contact Log Page (Velna Allen and Kelly Gurney -
There is a new parent/student log page that has been added to the teacher portal. Please help us get the word out so that teachers use this, this page is a quick and easy way to enter a lot of contacts quickly like for an entire group of students. This does not replace the parent contact log which should still be used for more detailed parent contact entries, this is intended to be a complement to that tool. Click HERE.

NEW - Veterans Day Commemoration (Daryl Brown) -
Just a reminder to devote a minimum of one hour on Wednesday, November 11th, to the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence in observance of Veterans Day. Unfortunately, given the current pandemic and hybrid environment, the usual option of a school-wide assembly is not practical. I am sure that you will come up with a creative way for students in the classroom and those participating in Distance Learning to honor veterans.
NEW - Science Kit Training (Kim Inman and Kim Hudson) -
Science Kit Training will be happening virtually on November, 5th, 10th, 11th, 17th, and 19th from 3:00-5:00PM. Facilitators and participants are asked to attend training from their classrooms so they will have access to the science kit materials. Please allow these teachers to remain in their classrooms until 5:15PM that day.
HERE is the training schedule for the 2020-201 school year. Only the November dates are in True North Logic at this time. Please encourage any new teacher to a grade level to attend the November training and plan on attending training on the other dates listed in the document.

- K-2 Progress Monitoring: Our DIBELS 8 progress monitoring window opens October 19th and ends October 30. In the event of HCS following a full distance learning model during this week, training for administering progress monitoring virtually can be found on the Office of Assessment's Google Site found HERE. Once on the site, select the Testing Programs tab at the top of the page. From there, select Elementary & DIBELS 8.
- Readinga-z.com: I am working on going through our Readinga-z licenses and purging old accounts. I have already freed up over 50 accounts just by deleting accounts of people who have retired or situations where a teacher has been issued a double account. If a teacher emails you with concerns about their account, just forward it to me and I'll get it corrected. As soon as I am finished, I will be sending you all a spreadsheet that has a list of all your teachers who have accounts, their usernames, and their passwords. At that time, you can let me know if there are any teachers not listed who need accounts.
- Digital Content for Math in the HCS Virtual School: I am working to enroll virtual students in our digital content. All students will be offered the opportunity to use the digital content but it will not be a mandatory piece for them to use due to the amount of learning the virtual program has. Freckle will automatically upload students this week for the K-2 students. I am manually setting up ALEKS for our 3-5 students. Please refrain from setting up virtual students or virtual teachers in your school for ALEKS. I am setting up an HCS Virtual School for these students and teachers. If you have already set up students in ALEKS that are virtual, please email me their names and I will transfer them out of your school to the virtual school.
- EDM Lessons: When teaching EDM in a hybrid environment we are working to complete three lessons a week. How do you do that when you have the students for only two days? Some of the lessons are easily combined to support teaching three lessons in two days. Be creative but make sure you don’t skip lessons or standards.
- Kindergarten Benchmarks: The Kindergarten math benchmarks are used to help you understand where your students are in math at this time of year. With that being said, it is strongly suggested that you carve out some time in the two weeks prior to the end of the nine weeks to give the quarterly benchmark. The items on the benchmark will help you determine how to complete some of your report card. Some items may be completed in whole group and some items may be completed in small group or individually. The information gathered from the benchmark will help you plan for small group instruction and give you data points for conversations with parents.
- Upcoming Science Kit Training: Please encourage your teachers new to a grade level to register to attend science kit training in November. Please refer to THIS sheet for the 20-21 training dates. Have your teachers mark their calendars for the additional dates during the school year. The November dates are the only ones in TNL at this time.
- Digital Portfolios in 4th Grade Social Studies (PLEASE SHARE WITH 4TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS)
- The second virtual professional development session will be offered Thursday, October 29 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Teachers may register now in TrueNorthLogic.
