SJE will virtually host Lou Ann Rosario (IDRA) on Wednesday, 10/12 from 3:15-4:15 pm. This will add IDRA Sheltered Instruction Coaching Hours towards your 10 required. A TNL course will be created for this time after hours. IDRA Consultant encourages grade levels to meet in one classroom but this is not required. She has provided us a SJE Planning Document & SJE Small Group Assignment.

Metric Week in South Carolina is coordinated with National Metric Week which occurs each year during the week that contains October 10. End of 1st Quarter - October 19 (Mark) -
October 19 marks the end of 1st quarter and progress reports go out on October 28. Now is a great time to begin reviewing grades prior to the distribution of progress reports.
Parent Teacher Conferences (Mark) -
The goal for parent-teacher conferences is 100%. SJE Parent teacher conferences should be completed by the end of the first quarter.

CogAT and IOWA Testing (Heather Sheehan) -
All grade 2 students will be taking the cogAT and IOWA tests as mandated by South Carolina Department of education. Although the primary purpose of these assessments is to identify students for the Gifted and Talented programs, student results are useful to teachers to help them identify teaching strategies for all students. The CogAT is a multiple-choice assessment that measures reasoning skills with different types of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal questions. The IOWA test is a multiple choice test which measures reading and math achievement. The testing window is October 17 to October 28.
Students in grades 3 -5 who are referred with also be taking the cogAT test.

Please remind 4th grade teachers to complete THIS DBQ form following the implementation of Jamestown DBQ. This DBQ form is also found in the Unit 1 curriculum guide. Thank you!

Please make sure any new teachers to a grade level have the opportunity to attend science kit training. We have training coming up on the 12th at the DO and 19th at the science center. HERE is a list of all science kit training dates for the 22-23 school year. This can also be found with the curriculum documents SEE BELOW
Science Kit Pickup
First and second grade science kits are to be ready for pick up on October 14. The drivers will begin pick up at 8AM on October 17. Please remember any missing kits are the responsibility of the teacher to return to the science center. Don’t forget to make sure any long-term substitute teachers are aware of this to ensure all materials are returned to the center at the right time.
