GT Math Clarifications on How to Incorporate Basic Facts/Daily Routines Into EDM:Basic Facts
SS (Kelley Wiltrout)
4th grade teachers and new teachers are encouraged to attend! All participants should register in TNL. Let me know if you would like for me to participate with you on the following courses offered:
Late last spring our district adopted The United States & South Carolina Studies, Part I (Gibbs Smith Education) for 4th grade social studies. Some of you may have received these materials while others may not have due to them being backordered. Hopefully, in the next several weeks, you will receive these materials and teachers and students will receive logins to the digital platform (www.gseonline.us ). An icon will be added to Clever for students to access the site. Until that time, Gibbs Smith has given us temporary teacher logins for teachers to access materials, to project text and other resources for class instruction, and to become familiar with the platform. Please be on the lookout for an email (sent this weekend) from me with the temporary logins.
Science (Kim Inman)
Upcoming Animal Delivery
Second grade in groups 3&4 on the rotation schedule have a butterfly delivery coming on August 23. Please make sure you are prepared to invite animals into the classroom.
ELA (Terra and Ashley)
- SAVE THE DATE! Training for NEW to Lexia teachers will be held virtually on September 7 from 3:00-4:30 - More information to come!
- NEW! On-Demand PD DIBELS 8 Quick Guide has been added to the Phonics/Word Structure On-Demand PD section of our curriculum documents.
- Achieve3000: NEW FEATURE! All students are now eligible for lexile adjustment on the 1st of every month! If students who score a BR on the level set test complete enough articles at 75% or higher on a first try score and do not have too many low scores, their lexiles will adjust each month. This is a great new feature that will help grow and monitor all students.
- DIBELS 8 Reminders (Tina and Kristy ) The DIBELS 8 Testing window opens Monday, August 22nd. Please make sure that class rosters are correct and make any changes to the rosters prior to testing. Teachers will need to sync their devices often. Remember that you will need to enable the MAZE assessment or students will not be able to log in to mclass.amplify.com/student. The directions are provided in the DIBELS BOY Reminders. It is recommended that teachers test MAZE in a small group setting.
Everyday Math rosters have been uploaded. Teachers will need to go in and delete their class from last year and set up their planner for this year in order to access their Everyday Math resources online. If you do not have access to the correct grade level manual, email me.
- Issues: We have found a handful of teachers and students that cannot properly access EDM online. Let me know if you are experiencing access issues.
DreamBox, Freckle. & MAP Accelerator
- DreamBox Learning and Freckle are ready for student use. Remember since DreamBox Learning does not have an initial placement test, it takes approximately 1 month of students use for the program to determine student levels. Remind students this is practice and to persevere through the difficult parts.
- Access to MAP Accelerator will be available shortly after the MAP Testing window closes and current student data can be uploaded.
GT Math Clarifications on How to Incorporate Basic Facts/Daily Routines Into EDM:Basic Facts
- Can be addressed as needed per student
- Consider giving assessments to determine which students need additional practice
- Many of the games/strategies may be incorporated in the homeroom during morning work time or afternoon dismissal
- There is not a daily time requirement for routines.
- Teachers are encouraged to embed routines naturally as the opportunities arise.
- One suggestion is to start in the Math Anytime Routine Folder and choose one routine to focus on each month. The chosen routine should reflect gaps that the teacher notices in students’ ability to think about everyday math or perform basic operations/computations.
