Documenting Parent/Teacher Conferences (Mark) -
As first semester parent teacher conferences are drawing to a close, all teachers need to have documented conferences with parents. This is extremely important this year as we continue to work diligently to assess student strengths/weaknesses, use that analysis to inform instruction, and make informed decisions about the most appropriate and effective interventions for students needing additional supports. Place your conference form in Carol's mailbox this week. Let Mrs. McDavid know if your conferences will not be completed.

DBQs (Document Based Questions) provide an excellent opportunity for students to experience the history thinking skills and inquiry required of our social studies standards. They also offer students the application of many of our ELA standards. Unfortunately, we were unable to implement them last year, but they are back this year!
The DBQ is part of social studies unit 4 in 4th grade, intended to be taught in the 3rd quarter. To prepare teachers for the implementation, two courses are being offered in TNL. The first one in December, and the second in January. All new 4th grade teachers and teachers new to 4th grade and/or HCS are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to attend. The first course, listed below, provides an overview of the DBQ process and components. Please register in TNL.

Reminder - ALL ANIMALS from science kits need to be in the pickup location ready for pickup on November 18. Please communicate this to your office staff. Any living animals need to be packed up and put in the front office for pickup. We have had a lot of missed animals from pickup before due to a miscommunication between front office staff and teachers- they are picked up from an outside source and cannot be picked up on a different date. Thank you!
