Project CREATE - Online Degree in Special Education - (Federal Programs, Kristin Wilson) -
The CREATE scholarship program, sponsored by the SCDE Office of Special Education Services, is pleased to announce the development of a new fully online Bachelor's degree program in Multi-categorical Special Education that results in initial SC educator licensure to teach.
Effective with the Fall 2022 semester, Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) will partner with Coastal Carolina University (CCU) in offering this new program. Full-time employees (instructional and non-instructional staff, in and out of the classroom) from all school districts across the State are eligible.
Qualified students earn their first 60 college credits at HGTC with CREATE funding and finish their Bachelor's degree program at CCU, also with CREATE funding. Upon completion of coursework at HGTC, students will be awarded an Associate's degree, after which they immediately transfer to CCU through a seamless partnership agreement between the two colleges.
HGTC-CCU joins Columbia College (also online) and USC Aiken (online after 60 credits) in serving SC school districts in the ongoing challenge of special education teacher capacity building through a Bachelor's degree program in special education.
CREATE applicants will be provided with information on how to make application at all three CREATE-sponsored colleges, thereby giving them the choice on where they want to complete their Bachelor's degree.
Please forward this notice to interested full-time employees in your district who (a) hold an Associate's degree in any area, or (b) have completed some college credits, but no degree, or (c) hold a high school diploma or GED.
The first step is completion of the online CREATE application at this link: https://sccreate.org/secure/apply.F20.htm
